Founded in February 2002 by Michael Hall, Thebes was born from a simple belief – that great businesses are built on trust, integrity, and people who care.
After leaving a similar role, Mike was encouraged by a fellow entrepreneur to strike out on his own. Armed with nothing but determination (and a bicycle), he began matching exceptional talent with businesses that needed them most. Within months, Thebes had landed its first major clients – Citibank and Deutsche Bank – and a reputation for quality and reliability quickly followed.
The name Thebes was inspired by Mike’s lifelong fascination with ancient Egypt – once home to the world’s first university. It symbolises knowledge, resilience, and progress – values that still underpin the company today.
When the events of 9/11 reshaped the global economy, Thebes faced one of its toughest tests. Instead of closing its doors, the team reinvented the business, evolving from recruitment into IT consultancy and managed services. Over the years, Thebes grew from a one-man operation into a thriving organisation with dedicated divisions in market data, networks, and gaming, all guided by the same motto: “Trust – you only get it once.”
A defining relationship in Thebes’ journey has been between Mike and Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, who became Chairman of Thebes Group after the two met over a decade ago. Mike was instantly drawn to Ken’s insight, values, and depth of character. Through their friendship – and Ken’s introduction to the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) – Mike gained a richer perspective on heritage, philanthropy, and the responsibility of business to do good. This ethos has since become part of Thebes’ DNA, influencing everything from leadership to community engagement.

Alongside it, Thebes Technology helps clients harness AI and cloud innovation to modernise systems, optimise costs, and create measurable efficiencies – always delivering outcomes, not just outputs.
At our heart, we remain a family-minded business. Many of our leadership team have been with Thebes for over a decade, bound by shared values of loyalty, collaboration, and care. Beyond the boardroom, we proudly support initiatives such as the Aleto Foundation, mentorship and apprenticeship programmes, and an annual Back-to-School campaign in Jamaica that provides essential supplies for children in St Ann’s.

Michael Hall is the founder and CEO of Thebes Group, an IT services and consultancy firm he launched in 2002 to help organisations achieve better outcomes through technology. With over 25 years’ experience in business development, he is a strong advocate for pragmatic, client-focused IT solutions.
Under Michael’s leadership, Thebes has grown to offer specialist expertise in infrastructure, cloud spend reduction and optimisation, as well as code refactoring and modernisation.
Michael is a Freeman of the City of London, a member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, and a Trustee of the Aleto Foundation, supporting the next generation of business leaders. Outside of work, he’s a proud father to four daughters following in his entrepreneurial footsteps.
Our chairman, Sir Kenneth Olisa, is a prominent British technology entrepreneur and investor with over 50 years of experience in the industry. He began his career at IBM before holding senior executive roles at Wang Laboratories, and later served on the boards of global firms including Reuters, Open Text, and Huawei UK.
Sir Ken is the founder and chairman of Restoration Partners, a technology investment and advisory firm, and was the first British-born Black director of a FTSE 100 company.
Appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London in 2015, Sir Ken represents the monarch in the capital and is also the founder of the Aleto Foundation, which supports future leaders from diverse backgrounds. Knighted in 2018 for services to business and philanthropy, he is a passionate advocate for modernisation, responsible leadership, and inclusive innovation in the digital age.
Richard Long is the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Thebes Group, bringing over 25 years of experience in the technology industry. He originally joined Thebes in 1999 as a Service Delivery Manager, playing a key role in the company’s early growth before expanding his career with leadership roles in professional and project services at two global managed service providers.
Since rejoining Thebes, Richard has been instrumental in helping to refine the company’s strategic direction and driving operational excellence. He oversees the day-to-day operations and service delivery of the business, ensuring Thebes continues to deliver forward-thinking solutions to clients across a range of industries.
Richard’s deep expertise in service delivery and project management, paired with a track record of effective leadership, makes him a respected figure in the tech sector. Outside of work, Rich is passionate about music, travel, and community service, actively serving as a town councillor and championing local initiatives.
Muhammad Miah is the Finance Director at Thebes Group and a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) since 2008. With a career in the accounting industry dating back to 1995, Muhammad brings a wealth of financial expertise and commercial insight to the business.
Since joining Thebes in 2012, he has worked closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, playing a key role in ensuring sound financial management and operational efficiency. He is instrumental in the company’s strategic planning and oversees the day-to-day management of funds, supporting business growth and long-term sustainability.
Muhammad’s collaborative approach and deep understanding of financial systems have made him a trusted advisor at board level. Outside of work, he is committed to continuous learning and mentoring the next generation of finance professionals.
